OUTER HARBOUR MASTER PLAN
The Master Plan for the major development of Port Kembla's Outer Harbour has been unveiled and endorsed by all key stakeholders. The plan is designed to guide the development of the Outer Harbour well into the future and ensure that port facilities are synchronised with those of our customers. The first stage of this development is scheduled to commence in 2010.
The plan is about increasing land and berthing capacity at the port as demand for its facilities increases. The development allows for the reclamation of approximately fifty two (52) hectares of land and the construction of seven (7) new berths.
A key element of the plan is that the development will be staged to meet the needs of customers with each stage coordinated into the overall Master Plan to ensure efficient use of land. The design is innocative and provides the most economical and efficient reclamation, satisfying the commercial drivers of the port.
The plan can be amended and adapted over time to accomodate new business, changes in technology and offshore development.
Each individual stage of the development will require specific project assessment and approval.
This proposed development has the potential to not only address the needs of new industry, but to cater for growth of existing trades long into the future. It will cater to the demands for growth not only in the port, but also in the region.
